Varicocele Embolization

A Minimally Invasive Treatment for Enlarged Testicular Veins
A varicocele is an enlarged vein in the scrotum that can cause pain, testicular swelling, and even infertility. Varicocele embolization is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure that effectively treats this condition by blocking abnormal blood flow, relieving discomfort, and improving fertility outcomes.
How It Works
Using real-time fluoroscopy (X-ray imaging) and contrast dye, our interventional radiologists:
🔹 Insert a small catheter into a vein in the groin or neck.
🔹 Guide the catheter to the affected testicular vein using advanced imaging.
🔹 Inject tiny embolic coils or particles to block the abnormal blood flow, shrinking the varicocele.
🔹 Preserve normal circulation while reducing pain and improving testicular function.
This outpatient procedure is performed under local anesthesia with sedation, allowing most patients to go home the same day.
Why Is This Procedure Done?
- To relieve scrotal pain and discomfort
- To improve male fertility by restoring normal testicular function
- To provide a non-surgical alternative to varicocele ligation surgery
- To allow a quicker recovery with minimal downtime
